Indonesia is a group of Volcanic Islands and this is illustrated most vividly on the Island of Java. These particular volcano pictures were taken at a place encompassing a particular volcano called Mt. Bromo. What you can see here is part of a sandscape and some of the volcanoes Photograph Taken in Java (Indonesia)

This whole area was once one big volcano but it erupted and left this scenic sandscape and group of volcanoes within a huge crater which surrounds them. This volcano, as you can see from the greenery, it has been extinct for a while Photograph Taken in Java (Indonesia)

This is a similar picture. Up here the temperature is cooler and at night can get cold. While we were walking around in T-shirts talking about how the weather was just fine, the Indonesian lads at the place we were staying, (incidentally called 'Cafe Lava' !), were wearing winter coats and complaining of the cold ! About 15 degrees Centigrade. Warm for us British ! Photograph Taken in Java (Indonesia)

Mt. Bromo is a dormant volcano which the public can climb. For our convenience hundreds of steps have been cemented onto the side of the volcano - no lifts!! This is the view halfway up Mt.Bromo looking down onto the sandscape Photograph Taken in Java (Indonesia)

The cloud like substance you can see is actually sulphur which is being released from this dormant volcano ! Note the lack of any rails or protective bars in this photo. That is because there weren't any! You are looking down inside Mt. Bromo standing on the crater. It is possible to walk all the way around the crater but all the ash crumbles away beneath your feet. You could end up sliding to your death quite easily Photograph Taken in Java (Indonesia)
